Rapid Strep Test

To find out if you have strep, your doctor will give you a quick test. Results will be ready in 5 to 10 minutes, but the test doesn’t always pick up all cases of strep. If your test is negative, a throat culture is then taken and sent to the lab.

Antibiotics

Are usually prescribed for 10 days. Finish the entire 10 day dosage.  If you stop too soon, some of the bacteria could survive and get you sick again.

Humidifier

Steam from a humidifier or vaporizer will keep your scratchy throat moist and cut down on pain. Do this for 5 to 10 minutes several times a day.

Diet

Eat ice cream, it’s great for sore throats. The cold has a numbing effect, and the creamy texture makes it easy to swallow. Other soothing foods include milkshakes, gelatin, and hot soup.

Hydration

Is extremely important. Dehydration will only make you feel worse. Drink water and warm tea which are good choices.
