Facebook and YouTube rate as the most favorable social media web sites by senior citizens. These seniors, age 65 and older, also enjoy social media, according to according to Pew Research.
The statistics breakdown further shows that forty-one percent of seniors said they use Facebook, while 40% said they use YouTube.
The next most-used type of social media for seniors 65+, was Pinterest, used by 16%.
Other sites covered by the survey were : Instagram, used by 10% of seniors; LinkedIn, 9%; Twitter, 8%; WhatsApp, 6%; and Snapchat, 3%.
Over all age groups, Facebook and YouTube were the two most popular social media sites, including those 18 and older. Including all adult age groups, 73% said they use YouTube and 68% said they use Facebook.
Sixty-six percent of survey participants 50 or older said they prefer social media web sites over other web site formats.
This survey was conducted Jan. 3 to 10. The sample size of 2,002 included 529 people 65+; 544 were 50 to 64 years old.
